FROM WIKIPEDIA:
(/ˈh(j)uːɡə/, H(Y)OO-gə;
Hygge is a word in Danish and Norwegian that describes a cozy, contented mood evoked by comfort and conviviality. As a cultural category with its sets of associated practices hygge has more or less the same meaning in both places and in both languages; however, the emphasis on hygge as a core part of Danish culture is a recent phenomenon, dating to the late 20th century. In the 21st century, the concept has also been familiarized abroad.
In both Danish and Norwegian, hygge refers to “a form of everyday togetherness”, “a pleasant and highly valued everyday experience of safety, equality, personal wholeness and a spontaneous social flow”.[6]
The noun hygge includes something nice, cozy, safe and known, referring to a psychological state.[2] The Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen has studied the positive effect of hygge in Danish society.[4]
Speaking of self care… The days are shorter this time of year, and our bodies are naturally conditioned to hunker down during winter months and surround ourselves with things that bring us comfort and rest. We shouldn’t completely reject our natural urges to slow down, even in the midst of a new year ramp-up. To me this means good books. Seeking people that are trustworthy and comfortable. Cozy fires. Feel-good movies. Warm fuzzy blankets. My comfy Star Wars Chewbacca socks. Extra extra extra cuddles with my kiddos, husband, and pups.
If it is impossible for us to find a permanent space and state of content, what CAN we do?
I’m committed to being more purposeful in slowing-down, especially as I am reflecting more on how short our lives are in the grand scheme of things. However fleeting, I cherish and protect the time I have to unplug. I trust you are doing the same.
As always, it is an honor and a pleasure to be in business with each and every one of you.
Yours in Success,
Coach Lins
