Happy Friday PC Rockstars!
I hope the holiday this week was fun and/or restive! I’ve heard from a few of you that some really great connections were made. That’s so cool!
I don’t know when the switch happened for me, although it was probably pretty early in my career. My brain shifted from seeing a crowd of people to seeing a sea of opportunity…
You know when you get a new car and all of a sudden you see that exact same car all over on the highway, as if everybody just bought your car? Our brains are wired to seek patterns and the familiar, and so it is perfectly natural to seek out what you’ve been thinking about. Maybe your ears now prick up when you overhear a conversation about somebody thinking about making a move. Maybe when a friend announces a wedding or a new baby you immediately consider that person may need to find a new home. That’s great!
What I’m talking about is something deeper than that, though. It’s in my frequency and in my fibers and you may be realizing it is becoming a part of you, too. A profound shift happened and I realized, either consciously or subconsciously, that it is NOT JUST THOSE PEOPLE who need me. Not the obvious. Not the folks clearly upsizing or downsizing. No. That’s the tip of the iceberg.
The real awakening for me was to realize that every person I know (or someone they know) could some day, maybe even very soon, need my help. My help. MY HELP. Not give me business. Come to me for HELP.
The shift happened when I stopped chasing leads and I started chasing relationships. I stopped seeking a commission and instead I sought opportunities to be the helper.
When I realized that this is my career and I was in in it for the long haul. When I realized that it’s so important to make the connections now to quite literally feed my belly later. When I realized that I need to plant seeds, come from curiosity and ask the right questions of everybody, not just the obvious short-term leads… that’s when it clicked. That’s when the magic happened and that’s when I started gravitating business instead of chasing it.
So tell me, are you gravitational? If you aren’t coming from contribution, the path will doubtlessly be uphill. Know your value. Know you can help. Ask how you can help. The business will fall into place.
